Registrar’s message: lessons learned from a challenging year—working together for positive change

Though important progress has been made over the last year to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic, reveal the extent to which Indigenous-specific racism exists in BC’s health-care system, and address the devastating opioid crisis, considerable work remains to be done. The lessons we have learned during a challenging year will have enduring impacts as we continue to work together towards positive change.

Recently updated practice standards and professional guidelines to reflect changing times

The College develops practice standards and professional guidelines to assist registrants in meeting high standards of medical practice and conduct. The College recently updated the following practice standards and professional guidelines: (1) Medical Assistance in Dying, (2) Photographic, Video and Audio Recording of Patients and (3) Social Media.

Ensuring appropriate use of virtual care during the pandemic and beyond

The pandemic has acted as a catalyst for a monumental shift from in-person to virtual care, fundamentally changing our perception and use of technology in the context of patient care. In response to the changing practice environment and recent issues brought forward regarding “virtual only” practice, the College gathered feedback from registrants, key partners, and members of the public to determine if the Telemedicine practice standard remains current and effective. 

The College Connector is sent to every current registrant of the College. Decisions of the College on matters of standards and guidelines are contained in this publication.
