MAiD practice standard updated to align with new legislation

On March 17, 2021, the federal government passed Bill C-7, An Act to Amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying). This new legislation expands eligibility for medical assistance in dying (MAiD), modifies existing safeguards, adds new safeguards, introduces a waiver of final consent to receive MAiD in certain circumstances, and expands the monitoring regime for MAiD.

Provincial health officer updates order on eligible vaccinators

Dr. Bonnie Henry has updated the order Regulated and Unregulated Health Professionals SARS-CoV-2 Immunization to allow physicians who have been retired from practice for more than three years and eligible international medical graduates to provide COVID-19 immunizations under supervision of a health authority during the declared pandemic.

The College is currently in the process of updating a practice standard that outlines the rules physicians and surgeons must follow when providing virtual medical care to patients in BC. To help guide the revisions to the practice standard, the College is interested in learning more about the public's experiences and expectations related to virtual medical care provided by physicians and surgeons.
